Core principle
TAB.REC processes tab audio and notes inside the Chrome extension and the browser Studio opened by the user. It does not send them to PackWink servers.
Data handled
- Playback audio from the current tab after the user starts recording
- The tab title used to suggest a filename
- User-created notes and timestamp markers
- One visible-tab screenshot when the user explicitly presses Capture
- Local metadata such as duration, status, and file size
Storage and transfer
Audio and screenshots explicitly saved by the user are stored in extension OPFS. Metadata and markers are stored in IndexedDB. TAB.REC makes no network requests for recordings, screenshots, notes, or tab titles. Export creates a normal file; choosing Studio editing uses only the local handoff described below.
TAB.REC Studio
The .tabrec projects, audio, screenshots, and Markdown files a user selects or sends through a one-time connection from the TAB.REC extension are read and analyzed only in the current browser. The automatic handoff moves data only between the two browser windows and makes no network request. PackWink does not upload or store the source, silence analysis, local transcription, converted or split audio, or retimed markers and subtitles. Exported results are written to a location chosen by the user.
Optional local transcription
Local transcription is off by default. Only after a user enables the feature and starts transcription does the browser download its runtime and the multilingual Whisper Tiny model from the TAB.REC site and Hugging Face into browser cache. Those download requests may include ordinary web request information such as an IP address and browser details, but never include recording audio, transcript results, notes, markers, or filenames. Transcription runs in a browser Worker on the current device. Turning the feature off keeps the saved model; users can remove it with “Delete saved model” or through browser site-data settings.
Data not collected
TAB.REC does not collect microphone audio, continuous screen video, system-wide audio, full browsing history, account data, or advertising identifiers. A screenshot is limited to the currently visible area of the active recording tab at the moment the user presses Capture. The extension includes no ads, analytics, or remote error logs.
Website advertising
Website ads may appear only in approved, explicitly enabled informational areas and are kept away from editing and download controls. When enabled, Google AdSense may process IP address, device information, cookies, or similar identifiers to deliver ads and prevent abuse. In regions where consent is required, choices are collected through a Google-certified consent management platform (CMP). Declining advertising consent does not limit Studio editing or export features. Audio, screenshots, notes, markers, filenames, and editing results are never sent with ad requests.
Deletion and retention
Users can delete one recording or all local data from the Local Library. Removing the extension causes Chrome to remove its private extension storage. The Studio transcription model can be removed from the transcription card or through browser site-data settings.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use
Use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including Limited Use requirements. It is not sold or used outside the product’s disclosed user-facing purpose.
